Doctor Who: 14 Most Paused Moments Of The Last Decade

9. Run, You Clever Boy... (Asylum Of The Daleks)

Look! It's that girl from Emmerdale! In Doctor Who! The brand new companion! But hold on, she isn't supposed to be in it until Christmas! And she's actually a Dalek!? What the Holy Jagrafess is going on?! That's the initial viewing experience of Asylum of the Daleks in a timey-wimey nutshell. If Jenna Coleman (technically speaking, she was still Jenna Louise-Coleman back then) making her unannounced Doctor Who debut three months early wasn't confusing enough, the fact that she was introduced and then died in the very same episode was quite literally the icing on the cake soufflé. That final shot of her looking ominously into the camera as she tells the Doctor to remember her no doubt had you reading for the 'pause' button as you tried to get your head around the revelation that the Eleventh Doctor had actually been conversing with a Dalek the whole entire time. Blimey. As it turns out, though, it was all part of a much bigger story arc which eventually - like, eight months later - revealed that the present day Clara Oswald had jumped into the Doctor's time stream and fragmented throughout his life in order to save him at various points throughout history. Or something like that, anyway. It all got very confusing and even the Doctor isn't 100% sure about what happened. It's never been mentioned again, though, which is seemingly their way of telling us to let it go. Moving on...
