As Peter Capaldi's Doctor is introduced in The Zygon Invasion, he's shown playing a cover of Amazing Grace on his electric guitar. Capaldi is a big music fan in real life (he was even in a band called The Dreamboys before his acting career took off), and this is one of the reasons why his Doctor plays the guitar on numerous occasions.

Capaldi's musical talents also mean that he's able to play the guitar himself, whenever these scenes are being filmed - and that's precisely what he did during this episode.

While the final version ended up being a dub, Harness tweeted that Capaldi actually played Amazing Grace live on set. But why choose this specific song?

Well, it's a reference to Invasion of the Body Snatchers, a movie in which aliens steal the bodies of humans. No points for spotting the Zygon parallels. In the 1978 version, there's a memorable scene where Amazing Grace is played on the bagpipes.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
