Arguably the greatest Doctor Who character in the long history of the show, Jeff ends up assisting the Doctor in his mission to capture Prisoner Zero when the Time Lord bursts into his bedroom, finds him watching porn, and then borrows his laptop.

It's a funny little scene, which, like most of the episode, just works, so you'd be forgiven for thinking that it was always an integral part of the plot. But it wasn't.

Originally, Moffat had a much grander sequence in mind. In this alternate version, the Doctor gatecrashes a local maths class, shows off for a bit, types up the Prisoner Zero reset code on a phone, sends it to all of the students in the class, and then asks them to share it on their social media accounts.

However, this scene was unable to go ahead as planned because the production schedule was ready to burst, and so, it had to be scaled down to just a single bedroom and a single supporting character - Jeff.

Moffat shared several script pages from the original sequence on his Twitter account, and it really is just a less focused version of the scene we ended up getting.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
