Doctor Who: 20 Things You Didn't Know About The Ninth Doctor

17. He Also Met River Song!

Like with Sally Sparrow, we never saw the Ninth Doctor meet River Song on-screen, but he did bump into his wife in the expanded Whoniverse.

The Big Finish audio series Star-Crossed teams up Alex Kingston and Christopher Eccleston and takes the two characters from a high-security intergalactic bank, to a run-in with a sinister dating app.

Another encounter of theirs was depicted in the video game Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock. Throughout the game, players can collect many different pages of River's diary, each containing some fun lines of dialogue written from her point of view.

On one of these pages she talks about the Ninth Doctor, noting his "leather jacket", "funny accent", and "big ears", while also mentioning that she shouldn't talk about "the war" around him, which is a nod to the Last Great Time War.

And yes River, it's really not a good idea to mention that around him. He gets angry!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
