Doctor Who: 20 Things You Didn't Know About The Tenth Doctor

3. "I Don't Want To Go" Was Nearly A LOT Different

The Tenth Doctor's final line prior to his regeneration is as iconic as it is heartbreaking.

Staring at the camera - almost directly at the audience itself - he says, with tears in his eyes, "I don't want to go."

We're not crying, you are!

Naturally, this was a very tough scene to film. Both Tennant and director Euros Lyn wanted to get the tone of the farewell just right, or risk leaving behind the wrong impression of the character.

Multiple takes of the line were filmed, each one more emotional than the last. In the end, it was take three that was used, a good mix of stoic and upset.

Imagine if the final image of Ten had been him full-on weeping down the lens. It wouldn't have felt right.
