Similar to the Valeyard, the Dream Lord is another dark aspect of our hero. This one was brought into being by some cosmic space pollen that caused the Doctor, Amy and Rory to fall asleep in the TARDIS, the Dream Lord being the Doctor's tortured subconscious. And this subconscious is far from pretty. As personified by the excellent Toby Jones, the Dream Lord is a hideous creation that taunts our heroes and wants the Doctor to suffer. Fans see the Doctor's darkest thoughts and desires, from his lust for Amy to his overwhelming self loathing. The episode in question - Amy's Choice - ends with the tantalising hint that the Dream Lord has not been fully banished. If any new era foe is crying out for a return, it is this one. Bring him back, Moff!
