Doctor Who: 24 Doctors Ranked From Worst To Best

24. The Watcher

Logopolis fails to give the mighty Fourth Doctor the send off he deserves in many ways, from the deathly dull plot to the smothering of our leading man with three whiny kids, but it did give us this rather bizarre aspect of the Doctor. Like some New Romantic mummy, the Watcher pops up throughout the tale to spy on events and to have a quick chat with Doctor Tom at one stage. The Watcher has obviously also seen Season 19 in advance and feels enough sympathy for the Doctor to go and fetch Nyssa away from Traken to join the Doctor so poor old Peter Davison has someone in the TARDIS who appears to like him. Clever this, as the Watcher turns out to be some mid-regeneration aspect of the Time Lord who has somehow nipped out to buy some white gauze, some face paint, recruit companions and wander about in fields. And you thought the Tenth Doctor's regeneration was indulgent. The Watcher was played by Adrian Gibbs, fact fans!
