Doctor Who: 24 Doctors Ranked From Worst To Best

5. The Twelfth Doctor

It's a testament to how good Peter Capaldi was in his debut series that he is placed so highly in this list. if he continues to excel as he has thus far, many will end up putting him at the very top. The kind of actor who everyone assumed would be great in the part, Capaldi still had to prove it. His acting, however, has been complimented by a showrunner who is keen to atone for some of the excesses of his previous era of the show, crafting a series with deep, dark themes and plots that feel more adult and vital. How Capaldi develops will have to be seen but his initial foray in the part gives us a more sober, grumpy version, in some ways sharing the less user-friendly aspects of the Sixth. Crucially, however, fans can see the hero underneath the bad behaviour, even if the Doctor can't see it himself. With Jemma Coleman's Clara, it's the best Doctor/companion team since Doctor Tom and Sarah Jane. From telling people to 'shut up' to kissing Missy and risking his life to stop a mummy, this Doctor has been unpredictable, brilliant and impossible to ignore. Bring on Series 9!
