Doctor Who: 24 Doctors Ranked From Worst To Best

22. The Doctor In The Dodgy Wig

No, this isn't referring to Sylvester McCoy in a curly wig at the start of Time and the Rani, but it's a nod to the many stunt people who have doubled for the Doctor over the years. Surely the best of these was the great Terry Walsh who doubled primarily for Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker in the 1970s. With Pertwee suffering from chronic back pain, it was understandably asking too much to have him throw people over his shoulder, so in stepped Walsh. Alas, great a stuntman as Walsh was, the grey badger they stuck on his head was hysterical and only matched by the dodgy Brookside perm wig them plonked on his bonce when he doubled for Tom. Many a time mid-roll, Walsh would have to fling one hand up to stop his stuffed animal from falling off. Walsh also doubled extensively when Tom Baker broke his collarbone filming The Sontaran Experiment. Walsh's frequency in doubling for the Doctor earns him an honorary space on this list.
