Doctor Who: 25 Actors We'd Love To Call The Doctor

18. Mark Gatiss

Doctor Who Mark Gatiss Tardis You probably know Mark Gatiss from Sherlock, or from being a writer. And whilst he's not nearly the most accomplished actor on this list, he'd bring something not many of them would. He's a huge fan of Doctor Who. It wouldn't only make us Who fans excited to see "one of our own" in the role, but it would be a perfect opportunity for Gatiss to portray all the characteristics of the Doctor that he loves. Just as Capaldi's an exciting choice because he's a Who geek, Gatiss would be exciting for the same reason.

And whilst you'd probably expect him to play the Doctor with Mycroft smugness, just watch this. He's actually played the Doctor before.

17. Tom Hiddleston

If you're totally unaware of who Tom Hiddleston is, spend five minutes on Tumblr. They love him, and believe he's the nicest man in the world; one user claimed that when he was born, he told the midwife she was pretty and apologised to his mother for the commotion. Perhaps best known for being Loki in Thor, Hiddleston is not only suave and charming, but able to play dark and frightening. Whilst he'd be excellent at playing the Doctor, he's also a name touted to play the Master too, though as with many exciting, British actors that we dream of seeing fly the TARDIS, Hollywood is probably more tempting than rainy Cardiff. Wait until Peter Jackson directs Who in New Zealand. We're bound to see at least one Hollywood star, right?
