2. The Invasion (Story 046, 1968)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2F41IIaP-k&feature=related In one eight-part (!) story, were treated to the return of the Cybermen, one of the best villains in the series in the form of Tobias Vaughn, the reintroduction of the newly-promoted Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart and the introduction of Sergeant Benton and UNIT! In basically one fell swoop all the ground was laid for the Third Doctors adventures, and in doing so, gave us a great Second Doctor story. Now this one technically isnt complete. No, two of the eight episodes remain missing. But when the story was released on DVD a few years ago, an animation company was hired to create animated versions of the missing episodes. This was possible due to all the soundtracks being intact, so while we dont have video for every story, we do have sound. And Im happy that the choice was made to do the animated episodes, because without those, I probably wouldnt have seen this story (Im not big on the reconstructions that are out there). That would have been a shame, because as I pointed out above, theres really a lot of greatness here.
