Doctor Who: 5 Best & Worst Companions

2. Kamelion (1983-1984)

Kamelion This guy looks pretty awesome, right? Not only is he a cool robot, he's a cool shape-shifting robot! A cool shape-shifting robot done 28 years before that lame rip-off Tesselecta! So why is he included as being one of the worst companions? He was only in two stories. See, the behind-the-scenes story goes that Kamelion was designed by a man named Mike Power, who had it being computer controlled. Because it was so complex, it malfunctioned frequently. But they soldiered on, and they managed to film its debut serial, "The King's Demons". Then Mike Power died. And he didn't leave behind any instructions on how to operate it. Thus, Kamelion was left absent from the following two stories, before finally they wrote a story specifically to kill him (Planet of Fire) just so they wouldn't have to fuss with the prop anymore. My question: It's a shape-shifting robot. You can get anyone or anything to play him! Why cut the character because one prop doesn't work? Instead, he became just a forgotten companion, and not a very good one. Such. Wasted. Opportunity.
