Doctor Who: 5 Great Uses For A Cyber-Head
2. A Target For A Raston Robot
265061Perhaps the most infamous case of Cyber-beheading occurred during 20th anniversary entry The Five Doctors, when a squadron of Telos's finest came a cropper after running into the Raston Warrior Robot, a dealer in whup ass wearing a leotard which set upon them in the scenic location of Gallifrey's Death Zone (the clue was in the name guys).
Using a sort of wand, it sent children scurrying behind the sofa and parents choking on their dinner as it knocked the chrome dome off an unfortunate troop member, on his knees in the aftermath of the Robot's no-nonsense, conceptual dance-based assault. This sequence also memorably saw a Cyberman being sick in sheer disbelief at his predicament.
This bloodthirsty scene obviously inspired script editor Eric Saward, for he put the same idea into the script he allegedly wrote (under the pseudonym Paula Moore) for Attack of the Cybermen. Not one to shy away from the brutal end of the space-time continuum, Saward did more than most to ensure there was a legacy of Cyber-Heads leaving silver shoulders. It could well have been his input that led to this act of ultraviolence being added to The Five Doctors. After all, could cosy Who institution Terrance Dicks really have come up with something so full-on for the programme's celebratory tale?
