Doctor Who: 5 Most Intriguing Stories That Were Never Made

3. Rose Tyler: Earth Defence

Rosetyler In the wake of the heartbreaking episode Doomsday where Rose is trapped in a parallel world, separated from the Doctor for good (except she wasn't), the BBC decided they still wanted more from the character and so commissioned Russell T Davies to pen a pilot for a continuing series of specials that would follow Rose's adventures in the parallel world. Rose Tyler: Earth Defence (the title coming from the Doctor's words to her at their 'final' meeting; 'Rose Tyler, defending the Earth') would have seen Rose working for the alternate version of Torchwood in stopping alien threats - what else! Rather than a full series it is thought a special would have been broadcast here and there to whet fans appetites between Doctor Who series. RT:ED would have played with the differences between our world and Rose's new home, including appearances from alternate versions of friends such as Captain Jack, Gwen Cooper and Adam Mitchell as well as enemies such as Slitheen and even parallel dinosaurs! Everything was raring to go on the project until Davies abruptly pulled the plug after he decided that it would have lessened the impact of Doomsday. It's a shame as the series shows much potential but at least the man stuck to his guns and knew when to leave the character alone. Hmm, yes.
