7. She Helped Provide A Different End To The Time War
At least, that's what viewers are led to believe, anyway. Originally, when the series was rebooted, the Doctor came back into our lives thinking he was single-handedly responsible for the eradication of Time Lords and Daleks alike. In addition, seeing as these events were time locked (meaning he was unable to travel to them in his TARDIS to change them - even if he wanted to), it was unknown to anyone but him what truly happened and so the fans pretty much had to take the Doctor's word for it. Near the end of the 50th anniversary episode, The Day of the Doctor, Clara showed a moment of remorse and hesitation and, while the War Doctor and the Tenth Doctor were both ready to kick start "The Moment" (an ancient Gallifreyan weapon so powerful it could erase time), the Eleventh Doctor noticed the dismay in his companion which enabled him to "change his mind". After all, he has had 400 years to think about what he did. Clara's outsider view prevented the Doctor from using the moment and instead he suspended Gallifrey inside a pocket universe where it would appear to everyone else they were destroyed by the Daleks, who would in turn destroy themselves in the resulting crossfire. As these events were occuring in the timeline of the Eleventh Doctor, neither the War nor Tenth Doctors had any recollection of the true events and carried on believing they had caused the Moment to occur. So, the Time Lords are really alive but only the Eleventh Doctor and beyond realise it and Clara once again played a huge part in Gallifrey's fate. Seriously, what
would the Doctor do without her!?
