Doctor Who: 5 Reasons Missy Should Become A Recurring Villain

3. It Would Allow For Further Exploration Of The Character

While the iconic incarnations portrayed by Roger Delgado and Anthony Ainley got a lot of screen time, the same can€™t really be said of some of the more recent incarnations. So far, Gomez has had two episodes, plus a bunch of cameos. John Simm had four episodes across the course of his reign, with a cameo in Utopia, and these appearances were split across a grand total of two stories. Derek Jacobi got one episode in which his incarnation didn€™t even realise that he was the Master at all for the most part. While that was part of the point, none of these appearances have moved hugely into exploring the Master as a character and there's still a lot the fans don't know. Bringing the character back as a recurring adversary, especially if that recurrence was on a more regular basis, would give more room for the writers to develop the character. This means viewers would get to know more about just what makes the Master tick, other than his/her relationship with the Doctor and an irresistible urge for to take over the world. Fans would get to see how various Masters respond to different situations - even if they were to only last for one incarnation. More developed incarnations of the Master could be a lead in to a fandom pipe dream as well; the mulit-Master storyline. While we€™ve had multi-Doctor stories, there€™s never been one with multiple Masters. Just imagine an episode with Simm€™s Master and Gomez€™ Missy joining together, especially if the latter or both have been developed even further. If done right, it could be one of the best episodes ever.
