Doctor Who: 5 Reasons Missy Should Become A Recurring Villain

2. It Could Shake Things Up

Missy has already torn through the modern version of UNIT, using Cybermen to rip apart their plane, killing Osgood and leaving Kate Stewart for dead after a near death that Missy herself had caused. By throwing her out of a plane. This turned everything around for the Doctor, putting him on the back foot, which would be great to see on a regular basis. It made the entire story feel like it had dire consequences and huge stakes, which, again, would be great to see on a regular basis - especially for a show that sees the whole of the universe or the whole of time under threat as often as Doctor Who does. It also changed the universe the fans felt they had gotten to know by removing well loved characters, such as fan favourite Osgood, and generally making everything feel that bit more uncertain. That€™s the effect that the Master can have on a narrative. The Time Lord can enter the story and, through the sheer amount of destruction that follows in his/her wake, the Who universe is not the same afterwards. It€™s not even just Missy who can have this effect, either - the last appearance of Simm€™s Master saw the Tenth Doctor regenerate and the return of a heap of evil Time Lords. In the Classic Series, meanwhile, Ainley€™s incarnation caused the destruction of a large chunk of the universe as well as causing the regeneration of the Fourth Doctor. The Master doesn't do things by halves. Each time, things have changed. Shows need this change in order to survive and there€™s no better way than the recurrence of a character who can change everything whenever they appear.
