4. Too Focused On The Future
It's not only past Doctors who got left on the cutting room floor, but past companions. It would have been nice to have even a cameo of any still living Classic companions and there are a host of New Who companionsboth long-term and one-offthat could have made for more fun. If Rose can make it back out of her parallel universe, yet again, then it should not too much of a stretch to collect the Ponds in New York, or fix Donna's memory. Yes, I am hopelessly sentimental. I miss everyone The Doctor says goodbye too. I would be perfectly happy with an anniversary special that just got together as many of them as possible for a long chat. Jo Grant opposite Craig Owens sounds like fun. And now, forever lost to the bin of could-have-been is a meeting between River and Jack. John Barrowman, especially, is among my reasons for being frustrated with the lineup for the anniversary special. This is not just because I am disappointed to miss Captain Jack's reaction to a very childlike version of his right kind of Doctor, it is also about the actor himself. Mr. Barrowman is one of the Whoniverse's biggest supporters. He genuinely wanted to have a role in the special and was turned down. I know that Doctor Who must, like The Doctor himself, keep always moving forward. However, I contend that it is not so terrible to spend one night looking back to celebrate, within the show, the incredible length and breadth of The Doctor's life. And while we are on the subject of The Doctor's life...
