Doctor Who - 5 Russell T Davies Era Monsters That Should Return (& 5 That Shouldn't)

4. Shouldn't - Gas Mask Monsters

Doctor Who Empty Child

Often cited as one of the scariest Doctor Who monsters, the gas mask monsters proved that Steven Moffat understood what made a great Doctor Who episode. Featuring in both The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances, it's difficult to think of another setting where the Gas Mask monsters could even fit in.

There were a few different reasons why they are they are so well remembered. For one, there's just something extremely creepy about the imagery of a kid in a gas mask. But it gets even worse when we see the actual transformation that someone goes through to turn into a Gas Mask Monster. While the CGI may look a little dated, it's still a chilling transformation.

While they may be some of the best designed monsters of the Davies era, they're almost impossible to bring back without it feeling forced. The Gas Mask monsters are a result of nanogenes misunderstanding the human biology, so to bring them back would have to be incredibly contrived. Best to leave these iconic monsters be.
