Doctor Who: 5 Things We Might Expect From Peter Capaldi As The 12th Doctor?

1. A Darker, Intimidating Doctor?

peter capadli There€™s been a lot of talk lately about whether the Doctor may go darker in his next incarnation. The main reason for this of course, is the Valeyard, a dark version of the Doctor that existed between Twelfth and Thirteenth incarnations. Plot wise we€™re almost at that stage of the Doctor€™s life. The Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Doctor€™s have all flittered with their darker, battle-hardened side but maybe now is the time to let the Twelfth Doctor loose down that uncertain path. I have no doubt Peter Capaldi is the man to do that. As unsettling as it might be to the audience he could use that commanding presence I have already spoken of to negative effect. We have already seen a morally dubious character in his performance as Frobisher in Torchwood: Children Of Earth. A man who would consider giving up a portion of the country€™s children to an alien force and then killing himself and his family when there was a threat to his home. And again I find myself returning to his iconic role as Malcolm Tucker. Arrogant and aggressive in his portrayal as a governmental spin doctor, what would happen if that aggression was poured into his portrayal as the Doctor. Alternatively, with that voice I could see a cold malevolence. Either way I can imagine a frightening change in the Doctor that could be the start of the dark path towards the Valeyard. So what are your thoughts on the casting of Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor? Perfect casting or too much of a change after the young blood of Nu Who? Can you envision the role based on past performances or are you coming to this with fresh eyes? This is certainly an exciting time for Doctor Who!
