Doctor Who: 5 Unavoidable Arguments Against A Black Twelfth Doctor (And Why They're Wrong)

2. Time Lords Have Always Been White!

odl(bonus points if they say Mels doesn€™t count as a Time Lord) Well, technically, they€™re right - regarding Mels, that is. Melody (played by Nina Toussaint-White in Let€™s Kill Hitler) is not by definition a Time Lord as she didn€™t attend the Time Lord Academy, but she is a Gallifreyan. Whether you take the Expanded Universe as canon or not, this means she is biologically the same or only a tiny bit different from fully fledged Time Lords like the Doctor, the Master and Romana. And even then, Time Lords haven€™t always been white. In the revived series we€™ve seen at least two black or mixed-race Time Lords, once in The Sound of Drums at the young Master€™s journey to the Untempered Schism and again in Rassilon€™s Council Rooms. A black Time Lord helps advise Rassilon on the Master and the Doctor. So they may have always been white in the Classic Series, but in this case the Revived Series has been making up for that in tiny increments. Gallifrey doesn€™t even exist anymore and we€™ve still seen non-white Time Lords.
