Doctor Who: 5 Worst Creature Designs From The New Series

4. Abzorboloff

abzorboloff No John Prescott didn€™t make a guest appearance in Doctor Who, this is the Abzorboloff from Planet Klom. The joke planet of the Doctor Who universe, and one of the worst monsters in the series for many a reason. This entry goes onto the list with mixed emotions. On one hand this monster is inseparable from the memory of one of the worst episodes since the show€™s revival, so it€™s hard not to look back on its memory with distain. On the other hand the original design came from a kid who sent it into a Blue Peter competition, so it feels a little mean to say it€™s a bad design. But it is. It€™s Peter Kay dressed as a giant ball of dried snot...with a Mohawk. The worst part of the design are several faces of his absorbed victims dotted around his body. This isn€™t a bad feature in itself, but the faces, which are still able to speak when shown in close up shots are clearly static moulds of the actors when in mid and long shots. To superimpose the actors faces into every shot would have required Star Wars and Avatar level use of green screen and CGI, so it€™s understandable that the BBC wouldn€™t stretch that far and you can forgive the slight cheap result. What you can€™t forgive is that the BBC let a kid design something which caused them to produce a cheap design.

Hello! My name is David Pustansky. As well as writing for this site, I'm also an actor, presenter, writer, director and artist. So basically I love creative things where there's a story to be told. I run my own theatre company, The ImProDigies. Be sure to check our shows out. As I'm sure you'll see from my articles I often look into things with a unique and quirky perspective and have a strange attention to sometimes strange details. Enjoy!
