42. The Trial Of A Time Lord (Sixth Doctor)
In 1986 production team for Doctor Who embarked on a difficult experiment - a season long story called The Trial of a Time Lord, which encompassed four shorter stories: The Mysterious Planet, Mindwarp, Terror of the Vervoids, and The Ultimate Foe. The story features the Doctor being brought before the High Council of the Time Lords, on charges of meddling with other races, and even genocide. The narrative keeps switching between the Trial itself and the events which his inquisitors bring forth as evidence. While it has its fair share of weak points, the overall scope and ambition of the serial overshadows those problems easily.
41. The Eleventh Hour (Eleventh Doctor)
Despite what you may think of the current state of Doctor Who, with showrunner Moffat and Matt Smith as the youngest Doctor yet, their first outing together certainly showed plenty of promise. After a particularly devastating regeneration, the newly formed eleventh Doctor is attempting to adjust to his new body and TARDIS interior. Naturally, there's also a potentially world-ending threat looming less than half an hour into the future, but that's surprisingly kept more in the background. But of course the best part is near the end. After doing the whole obligatory planet-saving stuff, he calls back the aliens and delivers a speech at them. What makes this so brilliant is how it simultaneously pays homage to the bygone era, and also heralds in the new crew. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYaQVjF48eY
