Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: 3 Possibilities For Ten And Rose's Return
1. Meta-Crisis Doctor And Rose
Perhaps in this episode, Petes World gains access to the real world (or vice-versa) once again and its the Meta-Crisis Doctor and Rose that are returning rather than past versions of them. I enjoy this theory very much, as it does not include a big, scary paradox or the removal of anyones memories.
Whovians around the world are ecstatic to see how Rose and Eleven will interact with each other in this episode - I know I am! Its nice to think that in this case it would be a current version of Rose who would understand that the Doctor has moved on with his life after she left. In terms of this theory, Rose has had time to start a life with the Meta-Crisis Doctor (marriage and babies, anyone?), and Eleven has grown a few hundreds of years older and has had multiple companions (and a wife) to keep him company over the time that Rose has been gone. He also currently has Clara Oswald, who has an extremely strong bond with the Doctor after saving his life over and over again. Will Rose become jealous of Clara for being able to continue traveling with the real Doctor? Or even better yet, will Eleven become jealous of Ten, for being able to live the rest of his life with Rose by his side? The interactions between characters would be absolutely brilliant to witness.
As attractive as I feel the Meta-Crisis idea is, there are definitely some drawbacks. For instance is it practical to have any sort of access to the parallel universe again? The first time the Tardis ever crossed over to the parallel universe the Doctor made it absolutely clear that it is something that should never have been accessible in the first place. Yet over the series there has been plenty of access to this specific world time and time again. Would it be overkill to visit Petes World once again? Will the writers be able to come up with yet another explanation for having access to the parallel world?
Even despite these flaws, we have all heard by now about the trailer shown at Comic-Con for the special. Although Steven Moffat has asked no one to leak videos of it online - that has not prevented the countless descriptions (some of them quite thorough) that have been posted online. After reading a couple detailed accounts of the happenings in the trailer - it has become apparent that Rose Tyler does not look like the Rose we have seen in previous seasons. Having not watched the trailer myself, I cannot confirm (nor can I deny) this information (I'm quite positive I read it on Tumblr) - but it appears to support the Meta-Crisis idea quite a bit!
To be perfectly honest, I dont even care how the Tenth Doctor and Rose will be incorporated in the story. I just want Ten to finally confess his love for Rose Tyler out loud. I cant possibly be alone in this!
