The Eleventh Doctor likely attempted to contact River Song at this point but River would not give him the sympathy he desired. His rage at his inability to change the past would ultimately create a rift between River and the Doctor and he would finally decide to take her to Darillium. He fashioned a new screwdriver for her to use and closed another loop. The future Doctor in Last Night looks hollow and tired and it wouldn't be a massive leap to imagine that he would retire after dropping her off after watching the Towers sing. At this point, the Doctor is done. His decision to take on Amy as a companion after his previous self said with conviction that he would never take on another companion would have been a leap of faith and one that a bitter Eleventh Doctor would consider a failure. Inside his youthful visage was an ancient old man who had seen over a millenium of pain and loss, so his choice to retire was not totally without reason. His stubborn resoluteness was a flaw of Eleven's personally but he was finally done and subsequently parked his TARDIS, fiddling with the desktop while he quietly lived out the remainder of his last incarnation. Or so it would seem, if not for a cheeky barmaid who moonlighted as a Governess. Do you agree with this theory?
