Doctor Who: 8 Mistakes That Series 13 NEEDS To Fix
7. More Two-Parters
For some reason, Chibnall decided that he didn’t want to do any two-parters for Series 11 and just made several underwhelming one-part episodes instead. Thankfully, he wised up in Series 12 and brought them back for the first two and the last two episodes.
Problem is that every one-part episode sandwiched in between them still feels overstuffed and rushed. With the episode count reduced to ten, sticking a third two-parter in the middle of the series would obviously be a nearly impossible tight fit.
So why not make an entire series of two-part episodes?
It wouldn’t be the first time. Series 9, Capaldi’s second, did this and it made for one of the most critically acclaimed run of episodes in the entire show. Chibnall’s ambitions for his 50 minute episodes almost always outstrips what can actually fit into the runtime, so reducing the story count and just focusing on delivering five two hour adventures would allow his narratives room to realise their full potential.
It would also help to reduce location budgets and we all know how much the BBC would enjoy that.
