Doctor Who: 8 Things We Know About The Next Three Episodes

3. Kill The Moon Will Be Dark

€œThe Moon has changed €“ and now it€™s threatening to wipe out all life on Earth. But when the Doctor uncovers its secrets, he realises the situation is graver than anyone thought. Can he stand by and let humanity destroy the Moon?€ Kill The Moon Synopsis
The plot of astronauts trying to nuke the moon and the previous mention of scuttling spider creatures and eviscerated corpses should be more than enough to clue us in how just how grim Kill The Moon will be, but one directive from Steven Moffat to writer Peter Harness does a lot more than that: €œHinchcliffe the s*** out of it€. As Classic Who fans will know, Philip Hinchcliffe was Doctor Who€™s producer during the first few years of the Tom Baker era and responsible for its incredibly gothic tone, particularly in stories like Pyramids Of Mars (1975) and The Talons Of Weng-Chiang (1977). Despite it already havig an end of the word scenario at its heart, Moffat deliberately trying to evoke the spirit of Doctor Who€™s most notoriously dark and violent period (at least for the first half of the episode) is the biggest clue that Kill The Moon will be an episode to send kids scurrying behind the sofas. It€™s also interesting to think about the tone of the episode will have changed with the arrival of Peter Capaldi as it was originally written for Matt Smith€™s Doctor but is said to work better with the more alien Twelfth Doctor.
