3. What Did The Fob Watch Mean?
The conclusion of Series 13 was supposed to solve the mystery of the Doctor's past, as her origins were hidden in a fob watch that she now possessed. Yet, we solved zilch! And now that the book on Chibnall's era has been closed, we'll probably never know the truth.
Flux had so many plot threads that the narrative was difficult to decipher at times. But, like the Doctor, we persevered through the convoluted episodes, gathering clues and piecing together the puzzle. However, the Doctor discovers in the series finale that she doesn't care about her past, and basically hides the watch from herself. So, if the Doctor doesn't care, why should we? Was this whole plot just a waste of time?
The finale suggests that the Doctor has realised that she doesn't care about her past, since she wants to be in charge of the present. But she already went through this arc of identity crisis in the last series! Nothing new is being offered here. The watch apparently carries all the answers - such as the significance of the Fugitive Doctor and the Timeless Child backstory - but there is no resolution given, leaving viewers confused and irritated.
