Doctor Who: 8 Ways The Tenth Doctor And Donna Could Return

6. Flashback?

So moving on from the timeline placement, how could their appearance actually be handled?

One possibility, which maybe less favoured by fans, is that the Tenth Doctor and Donna do not actually meet up with our new Fourteenth, with their appearances being limited to flashbacks. Simply some connection from the present to the past and we relieve those moments with the Doctor and Donna.

Doctor Who can be a big complicated programme, where events of the past impact the future. What if the main story of the 60th has been plaguing the Doctor for a long time, and Tenth and Donna's appearance is simply one of many? We can only hope.

This would interconnect the story, but avoids the usual multi-Doctor aspect of anniversaries. But what if a 'missing story' of the Doctor and Donna's has ramifications for the 60th?

I think fans will largely be happy to just see Tennant and Tate back together, but cannot help feel there is a slight missed opportunity if they don't come face to face with other Doctors.
