Doctor Who: 9 Major Questions From The Series 9 Trailer

7. What Are Those Eyeless Creatures?

A huge part of Doctor Who is built on the back of creating some absolutely fantastic, hide-behind-the-sofa monsters to go up against our time-travelling hero. The likes of the Daleks and Cybermen are an absolutely iconic part of the show that have lasted for generations, while the Moffat-created Weeping Angels are well on their way to reaching that status.

It seems as though we€™ll be getting a few new creatures this year to scare kids (and, let€™s be honest, adults), including a couple of different, super-spooky eyeless men. The first of these is dressed up in some Abe Lincoln type garb, while the other seems to be the cause of Morven Christie€™s petrified screams.

What exactly are these new eyeless monsters, and what role will they play in series? They appear to be featured in an underwater base of sorts, the same one we see The Doctor and Clara in at one point, which might give some clue as to their origins or how they tie into the episode.
