Doctor Who: 9 Things You Didn't Realise About Series 1 Of NuWho

4. Loose Connections

Naoki Mori wasn't the only Torchwood star to encounter the Doctor before embarking on her spin off shenanigans. There was Captain Jack too, of course, but Eve Myles, who fans of the show now know and love as Gwen Cooper, also appeared - albeit in a different role - in an episode of NuWho's first series. The actress played servant girl Gwyneth in The Unquiet Dead who proved to be just as brave as Eve's future on screen alias as she single-handedly saved the world from the gas-dwelling Gelth. Her psychic abilities also meant that she was the first on screen character to mention the ominous "big Bad Wolf" (excluding the Moxx of Balhoon who can be heard mentioning it in passing in the previous episode) which means that she managed to leave a substantial mark on the Doctor Who mythology despite the fact she only featured in one episode. Suffice to say, it wasn't the last time viewers would see Eve in the Whoniverse. Her future role as Gwen Cooper in Torchwood was written specifically for her and the similarities between Gwen and her previous Doctor Who performance were referenced during the parent show's Series 4 crossover finale when it transpired that Gwen's family date back to Cardiff in the 1800s - much to the Doctor and Rose Tyler's delight. Isn't it wonderful when a plan comes together?
