Doctor Who: All 40 Steven Moffat Episodes Ranked From Worst To Best
34. Time Heist
Co-written with Stephen Thompson.
From the outset, this has all the hallmarks of a thrilling standalone episode: a bank robbery on an alien world, the always brilliant Keeley Hawes playing the stern and sexy main villain, and a shapeshifting mutant to add a touch of Mystique (sorry that was terrible).
But much like The Beast Below, this plods along at Teller pace before arriving to an uplifting conclusion. The way the Teller forebodingly hunts down its victims has parallels to the Minotaur in The God Complex, although the latter as an idea is better conceived, and the way the Teller turns that poor bloke's brain into mush is macabre for a family show like Doctor Who.
However the rescue of the Teller and its companion saves this episode somewhat. Oh and you've got to love the "shutetty up up up" from the Doctor. if you don't get the reference, just do as Capaldi's Doctor would tell you to: Google it.
