Doctor Who: All Chris Chibnall Episodes Ranked From Worst To Best

9. The Battle Of Ranskoor Av Kolos

Chris Chibnall Doctor Who
BBC

This is an interesting entry, because as a standalone episode it's actually quite good. Sure, the villain is defeated a bit too easily, but there is enough here to really keep the audience engaged throughout. The episode sees the return of 'Tim Shaw', a decent villain that the gang encountered in the opening Whittaker adventure.

Adding extra stakes is the fact that 'Tim Shaw' was effectively responsible for the death of Graham's wife. The hypothesising from the elderly companion of what he will do to get his vengeance is brilliant stuff, with Bradley Walsh showing what a damn good actor he is.

The episode does suffer though for being the finale of the 11th season, something many Who viewers didn't even realise at the time due to its understated manner. It is most definitely the most pedestrian finale of NuWho, and thankfully something that has been addressed by Chibnall in the series 12 finale. The lack of any build-up whatsoever to this moment didn't help, and 'Tim Shaw' was never a big enough threat for viewers to genuinely invest in the finale.

While he likes to know himself as the 'thunder from down under', Luke is actually just a big dork who loves all things sport, film, James Bond, Doctor Who and Karaoke. With all the suave and sophistication of any Aussie half way through a slab, Luke will critique every minute detail of films and shows from all eras- unless it's 1990's Simpsons episodes, because they're just perfect
