Doctor Who: Best Episode Of Every Series

3. Series 10: World Enough And Time/The Doctor Falls

The Lost Dimension Doctor Who
BBC

Honourable Mentions: Oxygen, Extremis

Capaldi’s final series is regarded by some to be his best, which is odd because there aren’t many really outstanding episodes. What there is, however, is a great Doctor/Companion dynamic between Twelve and Bill Potts.

It is their friendship that makes a lot of the more mediocre episodes entertaining and what in turn makes the finale so gut-wrenching. Landing on a colony ship stuck next to a black hole, The Twelfth Doctor faces a race against time to save Bill, while encountering the Mondasian Cybermen, Missy and an old enemy.

Much like a traditional two-parter, the first episode sets the scene perfectly, with the theory of time dilation expertly utilised. The scenes between Capaldi and Pearl Mackie are excellent and both Michelle Gomez and Matt Lucas, as Missy and Nardole, are hilarious additions.

While the concluding episode is not perfect, especially with its rushed ending, there is more than enough action, humour and heart to entertain everyone. The sight of the Doctor running through a forest blowing up Cybermen is just great.

And even though the BBC spoiled it months in advance, the return of John Simm as The Master was EPIC.

It may not be the most memorable of two-parters but World Enough And Time and The Doctor Falls wrap up Series 10 nicely and the reveal of John Bradley as The First Doctor was an exciting cliff hanger, perfectly setting up Capaldi’s swansong in Twice Upon A Time.
