Doctor Who: Best Episode Of Every Series

2. Series 11: The Woman Who Fell To Earth

Honourable Mentions: Rosa, Demons Of The Punjab, Kerblam!

Much like The Eleventh Hour before it, The Woman Who Fell To Earth was under a tonne of pressure to succeed. Not only was there a new showrunner for the first time in eight years, there was also the small matter of the first female Doctor…

Now it must be said that Chris Chibnall written episodes have a lot more downs than ups but there is no denying that the Series 11 premiere is absolutely brilliant.

Without the TARDIS to aid her, the Thirteenth Doctor meets Yaz, Ryan and Graham, as an alien predator begins a killing spree around Sheffield.

Jodie Whittaker shines in her first episode. Full of excitement and energy, she immediately silenced all her doubters. Bradley Walsh’s funny yet heartfelt performance was also a pleasant surprise, with Graham instantly becoming a fan-favourite and providing much of the heart for the entire series. And before he was butchered in the finale, Tim Shaw makes for a really badass villain, with a fantastically grotesque design.

There’s a lot going on but none of it feels rushed or overcomplicated, thanks in part to a longer running time. Every major character is given a proper introduction, setting up enticing character arcs that unfortunately don’t get their due in future episodes.

Regardless of your thoughts on the rest of the Chibnall/Whittaker era, it sure got off to a cracking start.
