Doctor Who Big Finish: Complete Dalek Universe Review
8. The House Of Kingdom
After the fast paced adventure of the opening two parter, the first sets finale is a refreshing change of pace, focusing more on character dynamics. But there is still plenty of audio action, with the return of the Mechanoids.
The story revolves around Anya and learning more about her family history, with the wonderful Kevin McNally (most well known as Gibbs in Pirates of the Caribbean) playing her grandfather, Merrick. Also, whilst it was an easily assumed connection, due to name and occupation, it is revealed 60s companion Sara Kingdom is Anya's aunt, who died during the Dalek Master Plan, but more on that connection later.
As mentioned, the highlight of this story definitely revolves around the various character dynamics. There is clearly a bad family history between Anya and Merrick, a stand-out moment between the two is over the mistreating of android Mark Seven, a moment which clearly strengthens the character relationship between the two SSS agents.
This adventure closes with another cliffhanger, leaving our series leads in peril before the wait for the next set.
A more character driven story but still packed with action for the Doctor and friends.
