Doctor Who Big Finish: Complete Dalek Universe Review

7. Cycle Of Destruction

Doctor Who The Dalek Universe
Big Finish

With the first set ending with a character piece for Anya and shining more light on her history, the second opens with a character piece for Mark Seven. Whilst this has already been shown in his previous appearances, for an android, Mark is packed with character.

As with the last story being Anya's story, this is Mark's. Whilst Joe Sims maybe playing what could easily be a cold, straight-talking android, his performance contains so much warmth and character that Mark has continued to be one the stand outs for the series. This story contains various flashbacks (or memory downloads) which really shows the raw emotion and vulnerability that Mark Seven is capable of, and Sims performs these moments to perfection!

This story also features Nina Toussaint-White (who fans will recognise as Mel in Lets Kill Hitler) as Mariah Six, another android. Next to Mark, Mariah is probably the stand out of this story, playing a role shrouded in mystery, but as the layers peel away becomes a character you cannot help be sympathetic for. In the end, this is a story of nature vs nurture.

Another character driven story, which further humanises everyones favourite android.
