Doctor Who Cast: Where Are They Now?
12. Noel Clarke - Mickey Smith
Mickey Smith was treated as something of a punching bag by the Doctor in Series One, the perennial 'tin dog' left behind on the Powell Estate while his girlfriend went on time travelling adventures with a strange man. Thankfully, he was able to realise his own worth in Series Two and depart the TARDIS to fight alien threats on his own.
Noel Clarke, whose biggest role before Doctor Who was a recurring part in the sitcom Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, portrayed this character growth perfectly and made sure that Mickey felt like more than just a one-note joke character.
Clarke has turned his hand to writing and directing since leaving the show, producing the 'Hood Trilogy'. The three films, Kidulthood, Adulthood and Brotherhood, tell the story of a group of friends trying to survive in a crime-ridden London neighbourhood and was well-received by critics.
Clarke is also the star and co-creator of the crime comedy-drama series Bulletproof on Sky One, which follows two agents of Britain's National Crime Agency as they apprehend some of the country's most dangerous criminals. The show finished broadcasting its second series earlier this year.
