Doctor Who Cast: Where Are They Now?
10. David Tennant - The Tenth Doctor
Christopher Eccleston's sudden departure as the Doctor, after making the show so iconic in the eyes of the nation once more, left the BBC with a dilemma. Who could possibly fill his shoes? Thankfully, showrunner Russell T Davies had recently written a series about the life of famed adventurer Giacomo Casanova and decided that the actor playing the title role might make a good fit.
And how right he was. David Tennant is to the revival series what Tom Baker was to the classic series. During his tenure the show saw its ratings hit levels that hadn't been seen since its heyday in the 1970s.
Tennant stepped down from the role on New Years Day 2010 and his next big project came with 2013's Broadchurch, starring him as a haunted police detective trying to solve the murder of a young child and written by current Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall.
He would also appear as the villain Kilgrave in Jessica Jones, one of the Marvel Netflix series, in a far departure from the kind and smiling Tenth Doctor. He has also become an in-demand voice actor, providing the voices of both Scrooge McDuck in the DuckTales revival and of the villainious Lord Commander in the cult favourite Final Space.
