Doctor Who: Every 11th Doctor Episode Ranked Worse To Best
25. Cold War
It’s incredible that the idea of a Doctor Who episode on a submarine has not been done previously in the 55 years of the show. Mark Gatiss takes advantage of the claustrophobic setting and even manages to provide a decent reintroduction of what could have been a very clunky monster: the Ice Warrior.
Transferring monsters from Classic Who to Nu-Who is a tough call: which ones fit in the 21st century? Should they be dramatically changed? Gatiss manages to keep enough of the original design to please the old school fans but modernise it enough so it doesn’t look like it’s made on a budget of £10.
The story feels like a fun B-Movie as the Doctor and Clara attempt to contain this dangerous creature who is causing havoc in the confined submarine. It’s just a shame that the Game of Thrones guest stars Tobias Menzies and Liam Cunningham weren’t utilised more.
