Doctor Who: Every 11th Doctor Episode Ranked Worse To Best

26. Closing Time

Doctor Who Matt Smith
BBC

Similar to Neil Gaiman’s return to Doctor Who with The Nightmare in Silver, this reappearance of James Corden felt unnecessary after his strong appearance previously. The Lodger is a great fish out of water story as the Doctor tries to live with Corden’s lovable Craig but part of its charm is that it was a one-off.

Closing Time is basically the same plot but with Cybermen, a baby and this time set in a shop. That’s not to say that the relationship between Craig and the Doctor isn’t still funny but there doesn’t feel like a lot of character development or drama throughout the episode.

The idea of Craig being transformed into a Cyberman is something the episode boldly toys with but ultimately backs out of. In the end he is saved from this horrific fate by…love. Not the best finale to a Doctor Who episode to say the least.
