Doctor Who: Every 11th Doctor Episode Ranked Worse To Best
37. The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People
The most offensive thing about this two-parter is that it could have actually been a decent story. If it were not forced to bloat out the plot to 90 minutes this could have been an interesting exploration of cloning and the ethical debates around a clone's existence. However, what we got was a diluted and extremely tedious story that never asks or answers such interesting questions.
The supporting cast playing the mining crew from the near future are all doing the best with what they have been given but the episodes never allows us to feel anything for them or their clones. Even the Doctor’s birth as a doppelganger feels like nothing more than an excuse to allow Matt Smith a chance to have a bit of fun.
Considering this was penned by one of the co-creators of Life on Mars, this story lacked the depth, humour and drama of the cult classic show.
