Doctor Who: Every 11th Doctor Episode Ranked Worse To Best
2. Amy's Choice
Guest stars are a vital part of Doctor Who, they can make or break an episode. Love and Monsters could have gained the love it deserved if it didn't feature an over-the-top Peter Kay yelling out "she tastes like chicken" when he devours an innocent victim.
Similarly, the part of the Dream Lord could have been a fairly forgettable performance with a lesser actor than Toby Jones. Jones brings the right amount of menace and gravitas to this mysterious character who toys with the Doctor, Amy and Rory. As brilliant as John Simm was as the Master he did have a habit of overacting every single line whereas Jones's more restrained yet playful delivery makes this episode a joy to watch.
The idea of switching between two realities and making the characters guess which one is real is a genius idea too allowing the episode to keep us on our toes and experiment with a more interesting structure. The drama is riveting, the performances from all are fantastic and the final reveal that the Dream Lord was the Doctor all along is masterful.
