Doctor Who: Every Doctor Ranked From Worst To Best

17. The MasterDoctor (Sacha Dhawan)

Doctor Who The Power of the Doctor the MasterDoctor Sacha Dhawan
BBC Studios

The Power of the Doctor saw the return of several classic Doctors, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the BBC. However, it also saw the introduction of the MasterDoctor, a new incarnation played by Sacha Dhawan.

It's a little difficult to rank this entry, as there is uncertainty as to whether the MasterDoctor is a regeneration for the Master, or the Doctor. With the return of Jodie Whittaker's incarnation (for a few minutes, at least), this would seem like a false start.

It must be said that, while still clearly evil and deranged, this incarnation does identify themselves as the Doctor, rather than simply one or the other. Therefore, they do deserve their spot on this list - however tenuous that may be.

Dhawan, as he always does, plays the role for the seats in the back, and he's clearly having a lot of fun here. It's a supremely enjoyable performance, if nothing else.

The idea of the Master taking over the Doctor's body is fascinating, and now that we've seen it happen, who's to say that this will be the last time they attempt it? We may see another MasterDoctor in the future - or the past.
