Before Neve McIntosh appeared as fan favourite Madame Vastra, she played two Silurian sisters, Alaya and Restac (pictured). These two were hellbent on wiping out humanity after a band of them in South Wales had inadvertently disturbed the Silurians' underground civilisation with their big drill that was burrowing into the Earth. Come on people, the blue grass in the area was such an obvious warning!

For both sisters, their commitment to the cause was absolute: Alaya was practically egging on Ambrose to kill her so as to start a war with the "vermin" humans, while Restac was already on a war footing even before she found out Alaya had died.
