Doctor Who: EVERY NuWho Villain And Monster Ranked Worst To Best

87. Grand Serpent

Doctor Who villains
BBC Studios

Appears in: Doctor Who: Flux.

This is basically Craig Parkinson playing a sci-fi version of bent copper Matthew "Dot" Cottan from Line of Duty. That's not a bad thing - Dot is the best antagonist in that other great BBC drama series, and Parkinson brings the same level of master manipulator to the role of the Grand Serpent. The difference here is that he instead of a gun he's got a vicious serpent to kill anyone who gets in his way, and he's got a silver streak in his hair that adds a dash of flamboyance which all dictators desire.

Like with many of Series 13's villains, it's a shame he's not afforded more screen time as the Grand Serpent always electrified any scene he was in, particularly during his interrogation of the Doctor which made for compelling viewing.

There's just absolutely no way he'll remain exiled on some random rock in outer space - for one thing, he's too used to living a certain palatial space station kind of life.

The name's Colbourn, James - yeah, doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
