Throughout Turn Left, someone would mention now and again that there's something on Donna Noble's back. They'd freak out because that something was a plastic-looking stag beetle that created an entire parallel world for Donna - a grim and desolate reality in which she never met the Doctor.
But hey, it kept the Time Beetle happily chirruping for a while as it gorged itself on a lot of time energy.
