Doctor Who: Every Tenth Doctor Episode Ranked From Worst To Best

13. The Girl In The Fireplace

Doctor Who The End of Time
BBC Studios

The Girl in the Fireplace is one of the most romantic episodes of Doctor Who ever, as we witness the Doctor fall in love with Madame de Pompadour.

While the premise alone doesn't sound particularly exciting, Steven Moffat still managed to make this one a classic, which is why he's one of the show's all-time great writers.

He gives us the sinister Clockwork Droids which managed to frighten a generation of children; the creative idea of a spaceship with portals to 18th century France; the iconic image of the Doctor smashing through a mirror on a horse; and a heartbreaking final reel that sticks with you for a long, long time.

A clever, romantic, and extremely rewatchable episode, The Girl in the Fireplace is one of the best Doctor Who scripts ever written.
