Later on in War Of The Sontarans, there's a shoutout to a character called Commander Linx - which, fun fact, is actually misspelled as "Lynx", in the episode's official iPlayer subtitles. Rookie mistake!

Anyway, when the Doctor is chatting to Skaak on the Crimean battlefield, he states that "this planet has defied us ever since the great Commander Linx first staked his claim in the ground of its feeble soil."

Commander Linx was Doctor Who's first Sontaran, with his appearance in 1973's The Time Warrior marking the debut outing for his species.

The Third Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith ultimately helped defeat him, which explains why Skaak has got his panties in a twist!
