Doctor Who Listen Review: 10 Things We Learned

1. The Barn In Day Of The Doctor Has Huge Meaning To The Doctor

In the 50th special, the War Doctor trekked across the deserts of war-ravaged Gallifrey, taking shelter in an old barn where he sought to unleash the Moment. We assumed he chose the location simply because it was isolated and he wouldn't have interference from his people of the Daleks. But as Listen revealed, he chose the location because it had a special connection to him. It was the place where a very young Doctor faced his fears and used that to become the hero he became. We assume that he joined the army and became a Timelord after the night he met Clara and was given the toy soldier. It was the place where he found his strength and placed where he needed that courage again to end the Time War, destroying his own people and the Daleks in the process. Rather than delivering an unnecessary journey into the adventure of a young Doctor, Listen delivered a big revelation in the Doctor's life and added depth top his character, while putting the events of Day Of The Doctor in a new light. Scares aside, that was the biggest success of the episode. And there you have the ten big things we learned in Listen. It may have been a mix of chills, shocks and confusing narrative but there is no denying that it will help shape Doctor Who as it continues. We learned more about the Doctor and Clara and that is a great thing.
